About the Event

Are you a mental health professional who is tired of being trapped by the four walls? Do you love the outdoors and adventure? Do you like to use metaphors and movement in your practice? Then join us for an Adventure Therapy training. This workshop will be lead by Nicky Treadway, LMHC and Ricky Santiago, LMHC.

During the course, the instructors will review history, practical application, risk management, how to integrate into current practice and demonstration of hard skills.

Adventure Therapy, although an old form of therapy, has been growing in popularity in the last decade. Programs like Outward Bound and Project Adventure have made Adventure Therapy more popular. Currently, Adventure Therapy is being practiced all around the world. From large organizations to small practices, therapy supplemented with adventure is proving to be more and more effective.

This course proves to be a wonderful starting place for any clinician looking to initiate practice as an Adventure Therapist. The instructors will start with a overview of the history in order to gain an understanding of the work that has and is currently being done around the world. The course will then progress into an exploration of theory with emphasis on processing theories. This instruction will help provide a frame of operation and understanding.

Adventure Therapy also brings up a fair amount of concern for risk. "How can I keep client's confidentiality?" or "What if someone gets hurt?". The instructors will discuss risk management basics including front-loading, consent, and risk response.

Lastly, the course will provide group material, complete with hard skill facilitation practice and demonstration.

Attendees are invited to dress comfortable and get ready to learn through experience.

Early Bird rates expire 30 days prior to the training.

The workshop starts promptly at 9:30am and the day will end at 3:30pm. There will be a 30 minute break for lunch, but attendees are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy their break exploring the EPIC property which is located on the Earman River.

This is a Florida Department of Health approved course and 5 Continuing Education hours will be provided for Florida Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Mental Health Counselors.
